The war against germs began 150 years ago with the decision to follow Pasteur\u2019s view and regard germs as the primary cause of disease.<\/p>

Chronic diseases, whose prevalence is increasing exponentially today, are linked to profound changes in our microbial environment. The absence of certain microbial stimuli can affect the symbiotic system between humans and microorganisms and contribute to excessive, misdirected, or absent inflammatory responses. Scientific studies suggest that streptococci may possess protective functions against cancer, that staphylococci are associated with protective mechanisms in multiple sclerosis, and that lactic acid bacteria may stimulate the development of human stem cells.<\/p>

At the same time, germs are often viewed in our society as fundamentally dangerous and disease-causing. But how does this perception align with the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases? The uncritical fight against germs may have created new challenges and necessitates a comprehensive rethinking of how we deal with microorganisms.<\/p>
